Weerawansa ordered to pay Rs. 15,000 as legal cost

(May 28 , Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) JVP MP and and President of newly formed National Freedom Front, Wimal Weerawansa was today ordered by Colombo District Court to pay Rs. 15,000 as legal cost to retired Major General Wasantha Perera who has filed action over a defamatory remark made by the MP during a television interview.

District Judge Sisira Ratnayaka ordered that the payment be made as Mr. Weerawansa was not prepared for the court hearing today.

Earlier the lawyer of the MP Sunil Batagala had informed courts that he was withdrawing from the case as the file related to the case had been removed by Mr. Weerawansa. The former Major General is claiming Rs. 50 million as damages. - Sri Lanka Guardian
