UNP & SLMC: Street protests in an our alternative

(May 12, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem addressing a joint press conference in Colombo today said both parties would get onto streets to protest against gross malpractices that took place at the Eastern Provincial polls.

Independent monitors reported dozens of incidents of vote tampering and said a faction of former rebels allied with the government were responsible for a wave of intimidation before the campaign that made it impossible to hold a fair vote.

UNP under Ranil Has gone bad to worse on a daily basis and I do not know if they will ever recover from the damage that has been done by Ranil and his friends. Sometimes one wonders if Ranil is being planted by SLFP to ruin UNP.

Ranil still thinks Sri Lankans are fools and especially the Sinhalese. He didn't even have the guts to accept the last presidential election result making various allegations and then admitted that he lost because of Tamil votes proving that h can't come to power with the Sinhala votes as he is not respected and accepted by the majority of the Sinhalese for his behaviour and actions against the Sinhalese. This is the opposite to UNP leaders like Premadasa.

It must be sad for this not so gentleman to bear all these defeats and sometimes I feel sorry for the guy. Ranil has never condemned LTTE killings and I have personally challenged him to publicly do that. Now he has joined hand with another racist Hakeem who is talking about a separate area to solve the "Muslim grievances" with the Tamil grievances.

Hakeem never talks about the damage done by Muslim community to the Sinhala culture and property including religious sites and also the Sinahala grievances.

Ranil now wants to have yet another protest, and it appears he is trying hard to disrupt the economy more with these disruptions at the expense of the Sinhala population.

I think he should be more pro active and see how he can be part of the Military defeat of LTTE and getting the economy out of this mess so that all Sri Lankans will benefit rather than thinking about himself only.

If he really loves the country and its people he should join hand with the government and come to an agreement that he and his party will support the government in all positive actions to solve the burning issues and that he will expose the government when they do the wrong things such as bribery, kidnapping and killings as UNP always claim.

UNP seems to scream without any evidence all the time e.g. MIG deal etc. Now people don't believe Ranil and UNP about these complaints as it is like the "crying Tigers".

Please Ranil think of the country and not yourself for once in your life and help the country to come out of this difficult and hard period and think of the poor and innocent children and women, of what they are going through at this time of need.
