Tamil Nation has lost her caring daughter

“She is another victim of the political degeneration that is ruling the Tamil community. This murder has all the hallmarks of treachery, coverdice, ignoramus mindset of the so called liberators who have lost all the senses to kill an unarmed woman who had gone to see a bedridden elderly mother. The three men in LTTE fatigue involved in the murder must be ashamed to call themselves military men or liberators when they had perpetrated the most coverdice act to end the life of a non violent and caring lady.”

(May 14, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Tamil Democratic Congress unreservedly condemns the murder of a leading Tamil citizen Maheswary Velautham who was providing yeoman service for the needy in an extremely difficult situation in Sri Lanka. Beyond her political affiliation to the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) she had tirelessly worked to help many Tamils, ignoring all the violent barriers that prevented her from helping our fellow Tamil brethrens.

As an Attorney of Law by profession, she stretched her professional hand to many Tamils with humility and sincerity. She is a tireless worker and had undertaken many visits to prisons where Tamils were detailed without charges and helped them legally to be released from their arbitrary detentions. To her credit, she had helped many LTTE cadres held under terrorism charges and the emergency law in prisons in Colombo and Kalutara.

She never showed resentment when LTTE supportive organisations from the Tamil Diaspora approached her for help. She undertook the work entrusted by the pro-LTTE Tamil Detainees Support Group and helped get Tamil detainees released in many ways.

She is another victim of the political degeneration that is ruling the Tamil community. This murder has all the hallmarks of treachery, coverdice, ignoramus mindset of the so called liberators who have lost all the senses to kill an unarmed woman who had gone to see a bedridden elderly mother. The three men in LTTE fatigue involved in the murder must be ashamed to call themselves military men or liberators when they had perpetrated the most coverdice act to end the life of a non violent and caring lady.

These are the type of murderers some of the Diaspora Tamils elongate as hero’s at their death and celebrate internationally in a disgraceful manner.

We appeal to all the right thinking people to condemn this act of treachery and work to end the culture of impunity prevailing for these criminals. We also appeal to those LTTE activists in the Diaspora who had worked with Maheswary Velautham to help the release of many of the LTTE men from imprisonment in Sri Lanka.

Loss of Maheswary Valautham is irredeemable loss to the Tamil people. Let her death bring senses to the ignoramus mindsets that is funding and engaging to extend the violence against the civil society in Sri Lanka.
