“Shut Up! It was Free and fair Election”

(May 12, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Provincial Council election in the Eastern Province was conducted peacefully and in an ordinary manner said the Leader of the International Observer Group and the Commissioner of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) Ming-Hwa Tsai in Colombo.

The International Observer Group consists of 17 members from 10 Asian countries to monitor the Eastern Provincial Council Election.

The voters as well as the officials in the process fulfilled their respective duty with competence and becoming alacrity observed the polling station operations were conducted smoothly and without untoward incident, she said

Briefing the Press, she said that on the whole, the professionalism demonstrated by the election administrators contributed greatly to the credibility of the results.

Most importantly, the success of the elections should be attributed to the people of Sri Lanka, mainly the people of the Eastern Province, for their disciplined behaviour and commitment towards the democratic process. The fact that the people themselves embraced the elections, more than anything else proves that these recently concluded elections were indeed free and fair, she said.
