People have begun to defy the dictates of the tigers

(May 31, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare, says that he strongly condemns any barbaric activities committed targeting innocent civilians.

Minister addressing a large gathering of people who had come to his Ministerial Office in Jaffna on the last 27th stated that he was one of the militants who resorted to arms for winning the rights of the Tamil people at the initial stages of their struggle. Due to this very fact a duty had been cast upon him to bear just responsibility of redeeming the Tamil people from immense sufferings they are undergoing today. He also said that he therefore made it a point to come to Jaffna and be with the people for sorting out their problems.

Minister explained the activities resorted to by the hostile forces including the Tigers bent on bringing destruction to the peaceful living and freedom of the innocent people and said that the Tamil people have now have begun to defy the dictates of the Tigers and have started working against these Fascist forces. He insisted that this situation ought to be developed further and in such a situation only the permanent solutions to problems of the Tamil people could be found.
