Pastor and 3 more abducted in Puttalam

(June 01, Puttalam, Sri Lanka Guardian) Four persons including a Pastor of a Christian church have been abducted in two separate incidents in Puttalam, Police sources said.

Pastor Kandiaha Sivakumara, 28, the chief co-ordinator for the Puttalam district for the “United Church’ and his assistant Mariyappan Yuvaneshwaran (22) were taken away in a white van from the Thabbowa area on Saturday afternoon, according to a complaint at the Puttalam police by the pastor’s wife, Kandasamy Jeewa.

A dispute over conducting religious services is likely had led to the abduction as previously members of the same group have been abducted, sources said.

In a second incident two persons, both of them Tamils had been taken away in a white van and there whereabouts are not known. They were residents of the area.

Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara confirmed the first incident and said a search operation was in progress.
