“President is only determined to follow laws of the Jungle”

(April 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Addressing the media yesterday (04 April), UNP M.P. Lakshman Kiriella said, this Govt. is only preoccupied with harassing opponents and plotting against the people by looking for measures to heap burdens on them while perpetuating its evil motivated power and sustaining its Giant white elephant of Cabinet Ministers by hook or by crook ,compromising country’s economy, development ,people’s safety and welfare.

SLMC Leader Rauf Hakeem who is contesting the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council polls under the UNP-SLMC alliance is being deliberately exposed to danger by the Govt. because he joined the UNP resigning from his Parliament seat.The Govt. has filed a petition in Court to withdraw his security.

Doesn’t the Govt. know that Hakeem is a popular political leader who has been under dire and consistent threats all along? If the President can provide maximum security to ordinary Chairmen of Govt. Institutions and his kith and kin that hold no posts; this move by the Govt. is obviously to push Hakeem to the same corner as of Pararajasingham M.P.who was murdered immediately after the withdrawal of his security detail. Why should the Govt. move so hastily and determinedly to remove Hakeem’s security while reinforcing the security of the LTTE breakaway Pillayan group. On what legal basis is the Govt. taking these steps? He asked. Parliamentarians Maheswaran, Pararajasingham and Raviraj died under mysterious circumstances. Even after the Scotland Yard had furnished its report on the death of Raviraj, and the TNA gave the list of names of those involved in the murder of Pararajasingham, the Govt. is silent and has not made this known, he added.

The President by fostering jungle laws and a ‘frog in the well culture’ towards the International community has alienated the entire world which has been of assistance to Sri Lanka. The Govt. which has signed 24 International treaties to respect the laws of the country and human rights has lost its senses and sanity in this direction incurring the Global wrath, he asserted.

The Govt. is so hell bent on winning the Eastern polls by foulest methods , it is alleged that it has entered into another secret pact with the weapon wielding unlawful LTTE breakaway Pillayan group like the one at the last Presidential polls with the LTTE . It is reported that many Tamil parties and others have been threatened against contesting in much the same way the LTTE forced the Tamils in the North from voting in 2005 to help Mahinda Rajapakse win.
