(May 01,New Delhi, Sri Lanka Guardian) According to important and a reliable source close to the central government of India, it is confirmed that ‘the Government of India is intending to halt all military facilitation and aid to Sri Lanka if the Government of Sri Lanka does not pursue a sincere path of finding a political solution to the conflict following the Provincial Government election in the East on May 10, 2008.’
The APRC process has engineered a route to implement most of the provisions in the 13th Amendment to the constitution as a first step towards proper resolution to the conflict in Sri Lanka. But there is serious concern that the Government of Sri Lanka is not sincere in putting forward a serious proposal to deal with the core issues burgeoning the island nation.
‘We cannot accept Sri Lankan Government policy on their minority citizens. They cannot use the LTTE factor to undermine the minority demands. If they failed to engage in a responsible manner, we intend taking serious policy decision on Sri Lanka’ the reliable source attached to the Indian External Affairs Ministry told the Sri Lanka Guardian.
Now that the Tamil Nadu politics is progressively heading towards pro-Tamil and anti- Sri Lankan government and anti- LTTE policy, the central government is under pressure to take a definite stand despite some politicians in Tamil Nadu are openly advocating a pro LTTE position to campaign against the government of Sri Lanka in India and internationally.
‘There is also pressure from the pro LTTE politicians in Tamil Nadu and they are deeply in discussion with Central Government. The Central government is adapting a ‘wait and see policy’ on Sri Lankan. But the situation is grave and its policy is expected to change significantly as Sri Lankan government is playing irresponsibly on the crisis’ the source further told the Sri Lanka Guardian.
