“Reacting to this, the party leader told the media that he has information and bills in his possession regarding the conduct at faraway rest houses and restaurants of those who claim that they had never visited Sri Pada or Sigiriya.”

(April 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna did not allow MP Wimal Weerawansa to initiate legal action against the media and other quarters for the various allegations leveled against him, as the party wanted to prevent the ‘bad odour’ of the charges from spreading outside the country, party leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said.
Amarasinghe, speaking at a media briefing in Colombo this morning (Apr. 09th) was responding to a special statement made by Weerawansa in Parliament yesterday.
In his speech, Weerawansa had alleged that the JVP had prevented him from taking action against the allegations leveled regarding his hair as well as his wife and children.
The former Parliamentary Group leader and Propaganda Secretary of the JVP also said that he had sacrificed his youth for party work, and did not get a chance even to visit Sri Pada.
Reacting to this, the party leader told the media that he has information and bills in his possession regarding the conduct at faraway rest houses and restaurants of those who claim that they had never visited Sri Pada or Sigiriya.
“Do not provoke us into expose much more,” Amarasinghe warned.
When a journalist asked the JVP to detail the allegations against Weerawansa, party MP K.D. Lal Kantha said their politburo had permitted the party to disclose only the information regarding visits by Weerawansa to rest houses and restaurants.
