(March 12, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (M) yesterday formed its Bhikkhu Front and appointed office-bearers during its first convention held in Colombo.
Ven Malambe Seelarathana Thera has been appointed the President of the Front while Ven. Kolonne Siri Shantha Vijaya Thera is its Secretary. Ven Seelarathana Wattala Amarawansa Thera has been appointed the Treasurer. Speaking to the media Ven Seelarathana Thera who currently holds several portfolios of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, including the Presidentship of the SLFP’s Colombo district, charged President Mahinda Rajapaksa for increasing the burden of the people.
“All the time he (President) says because of the ongoing war the cost of living is rising, but at the same time he is maintaining a giant Cabinet with over 100 Ministers,” Ven Seelarathana Thera charged. He also said that the forming of a Bhikkhu Front was yet another step forward to send the current government home. He also urged the JHU monks to join the SLFP (M) in order to have a good future for the country.
Convener of the SLFP (M) Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera was also present.
