(March 01, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The furore over the appointment to the CC and minister Mervyn Silva’s statement brought him into the limelight again last week. He had said that on his resigning his MP post he would be appointed to the CC. With his statement, the long awaited appointment of former Auditor General Mayadunne to this post took a hilarious turn.
The President questioned him about his statement at the meeting of government MPs held at Temple Trees last week. “Mr President, I dreamt that I resigned my MP and ministerial posts and was appointed to the CC. All newspapers carried my dream.” quipped Mervyn, making everybody burst into peals of laughter. The President at the government party meeting advised minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya that people should not be burdened when taxes are framed. The proposed taxes on dirt should not be imposed, he said.
