(February 03, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The United Kingdom proscribed LTTE activists are proactively engaged in activities of the LTTE in London. The organisations that are definitely identified as fronts of the LTTE are carrying out campaigns to espouse the cause of the LTTE.
The British Tamil Forum (BTF) and the Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO) are the main LTTE fronts, which have organised large gatherings and publicity campaigns incurring exorbitant costs for the past two years.
The TYO leader Golden Lambert was arrested under the Terrorism Act and he is currently released on bail. This organisation is holding two major LTTE events in London. The latest one is a demonstration in front of the House of Parliament on February 4, 2008.
Posters and leaflets are widely circulated in London. Determined few are even calling individuals by phone to attend the demonstration. Leading activists of the LTTE are expected to address the rally.
In addition to such functions, the LTTE men are on the full force selling LTTE materials throughout the Tamil outlets in London. The Tamil shops are being forced to sell LTTE calendars, CD’s video cassettes and LTTE publications without displaying them on the shelves. The pro-LTTE shop owners are offering Tamil customers when they visit their shops items of LTTE materials.
Forefront of these shops are said to be Iynkaran Video’s and Shakthy Cash & Carry based in the High Street in East Ham. They were seen carrying large quantity of LTTE materials in the shop. Specific and sensitive records are kept under the counter and sold to customers on request only.
