(February 07, Paris, Sri Lanka Guardian) Some time ago a friend of mine wanted me to participate in a telephone discussion over THE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES perpetrated in Sri Lanka.
I simply suggested to him that a Human Rights activist should act as a mother when her own children are quarreling each other, without being biased, without being onesided!
But unfortunately almost all the Human Rights activists in Sri Lanka are keeping a deafening silence when civilians are killed by LTTE. When army commits a such an act they all are coming to the arena with so many slogans!
These days we are witnessing this phenomenon in Sri Lanka.
For so called humanitarian, humaine, democratic organizations these civilian killings are not very important. (do not forget that among these civilians there are people who are ethnic Tamils too. A Tamil student of a leading Colombo school was also killed in the name of Liberation of Tamils!)
This situation reminds me the macabre era of 1988-89! 50 or 70 dead bodies were exposed in many places. These Human Rights group were really dormant!
For Human Rights watch a Palestinian suicide bomber is a Terrorist while Sri Lankan suicide bomber is a freedom fighter! For the “independent, unbiased, free” BBC too Palestinians are Terrorists and Sri Lankan life-bombers are Freedom fighters!
When more than one Million children in Iraq died because of the UNO embargo Amnesty International and other such organizations kept silence.
When 32 innocent novice monks were butchered by LTTE a notorious Human Rights activist in Sri Lanka was thus talking to BBC:
“now we have fear that innocent Tamil people would be attacked!” For this HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST those innocent children were NOTHING! (Anyway no such attack against Tamils took place neither)
NO! NO! DO NOT BE DEAF WHEN INNOCENT SINHALESE, TAMIL AND MUSLIM PEOPLE ARE BUTCHERED IN THE NAME OF LIBERATION!
PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW BLINDLY THE DIRE DOCTRINE OF "THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS!"
If Human Rightists are to protect TRUE HUMAN RIGHTS they have to act like the mother whose children are in conflict!
If this ugly Trend continues to exist people will definitely reject you! Please forget your Dollar greediness!
