( January, 02, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) This is the first time people of Sri Lanka were greeted by a most tragic New year ushered in by the Rajapakse .Govt. by presenting them with gifts of steep price hikes and murder of a Parliamentarian who spoke against the Govt. and threatened to expose the Ministers behind the killings, abductions, extortions and disappearances in the North.
On the first of Jan.2008, UNP M.P. Maheswaran was killed. On the following day, today (2Jan) an army bus came under a bomb attack killing several and wounding many.
While the UNP expresses its condolences to those dead soldiers and their families as well as pray for an early recovery for those injured, it must become clear to the masses by now what worse dangers and sufferings are in store for the New Year because of the tyranny, corruption and self seeking opportunism of this Rajapakse family rule.
Even as the Govt. boasts of capturing Kilinochchi , there is a bomb devastation in the very heart of Colombo.! When Gotabaya turned bombastic of capturing Wanni, the entire Air force base at Anuradhapura was blasted with billions of rupees of people’s money lost with several Aircrafts damaged.
The Govt. took a lot of pains to give security to boorish Mervyn Silva and his underworld gang and save them when they attacked the Rupavahini News Director, but, the same Govt. takes special pains to remove the security of those MPs who have even been officially declared as under grave threats to their lives. The only ‘crime’ committed by them is opposing and exposing the Govt. misdeeds and tyranny! He exhorted.
While the law abiding M.P. Maheswaran is no more among us because of Govt.’s action , Minister Mervyn Silva guilty of countless acts of violence and crimes is still not arrested; and is moving freely giving himself the airs of a hero with President’s patronage ., he concluded.
