LTTE Activities a Key Issue in Tamil Nadu Politics
(January 21, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Tamilnadu Assembly session is expected to be stormy on Wednesday, with Governor’s address, amidst lots of speculation in the political circles of realignment.
Opposition Parties in Tamil Nadu have chalked out a strategy to put the ruling party on the pat on a host of issues arising out of the movement of the LTTE and in the wake of the terror outfit’s men in the recent past.
Many new announcements were expected in Governor Surjit Singh Barnala address in the Assembly on 23 January.
The government was expected to introduce Bills to replace ordinances pronounced, when the Assembly was not in the session.
The duration of the session would be decided in the business advisory committee meeting to be held immediately after the Governor’s speech headed by the Speaker R Avudaiappan.It is expected that the session would be on for five to six days.
The session would come to close after the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s reply to the discussion on the thanks giving motion on the last day.And the budget session of the Assembly was expected to begin in the last week of February or in the first week of March.
Opposition parties and the alliance parties have planned to raise many important issues during the session.
Main opposition party AIADMK is expected to raise issue of increasing LTTE movement and, law and order problems in the State. It may be noted AIADMK had demanded dismissal of the DMK government on the LTTE issue.
Whereas, AIADMK’s ally MDMK, which a known supporter of LTTE and Tamil Ellam cause, would force the government to pass a resolution to condemn unilateral declaration of the Sri Lankan government decision to scrap the Ceasefire Agreement with the LTTE.
DMK’s ally PMK, which was not in good term with the ruling party, was expected to raise the issue of cement price rise and law and order issues.
Congress would make it stand clear on the LTTE’s increasing presence in the State.
But Left parties were expected to lend a helping hand to the government while it put pressure to ensure transparent distribution of house site pattas to the poor people living on government lands.
