Speaking to reporters, he said Finance Minister P Chidambaram, AICC representative Arun Kumar and TNCC chief Krishnaswamy would take part in a public meeting at Mylapore on Saturday to commemorate the birthday of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

He said the State partymen were striving for the establishment of Congress-led coalition in Tamilnadu which would usher in Kamaraj rule. Coming down heavily on extremism and the resurfacing of LTTE activity in the State, Elangovan said he was hopeful that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would take the necessary steps to curb down on such unlawful activities.

Further, he said the law and order had worsened of late in the State, but expressed confidence that Karunanidhi has the experience to deal firmly with extremist and unlawful outfits in Tamilnadu. He flayed Thirumavalavan for his pro-LTTE remarks and urged him to change his attitude for good.

To a question, Elangovan said the Congress MLAs in the Assembly were doing their job well and there was no question of getting Cabinet berths in the present regime. But they should not take back seat in pointing out the mistakes of the DMK government, he said.
