(December, 13, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Tamils across the world should come together as the language is facing a serious threat due to globalisation era, lyricist Vairamuthu has said.

Speaking at a function organised by SRM University to felicitate Malaysian Tamil writers and journalists, in Chennai on Tuesday, Vairamuthu said it was high time for Tamils to join hands.

‘Once in every fortnight, a language is dying somewhere in the world. Tamil is also facing such threat. The 10 crore Tamil speaking population at the global level should fight against the attack made to them,’ he said.

Stating that written words could only sustain in the highly competitive world, he urged the Malaysian Tamil writers to record their travel experience in order to reach out to more people.

‘You are the ambassadors of the language. And you are serving as a link between the people of different countries,’ he said.

Vairamuthu appealed to the writers to visit Tamilnadu once in two years to strengthen the cultural ties with the State. He also thanked them for their urge to visit the homeland.

Speaking on the occasion, SRM University Chancellor T R Pachamuthu said the writers played a pivotal role in societal change. He also requested them to analyse the truth and to reflect it in their works.

The 34-member team led by Malaysian Tamil Writers Association president P Rajendran were presented with mementos during the occasion. Actor and Mylapore MLA S Ve Shekher, singer Pushpavanam Kuppusamy and writer Subha Venkat also spoke.
