(December, 18, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Former Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa has demanded the Union government to take stern action against Tamilnadu government and it’s Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for helping LTTE operative Vanniarasu to come out on bail.

Moreover, she urged the Centre to bring in POTA once again to weed out terrorism and extremism.

In a statement circulated to the press on Tuesday, she said that Karunanidhi, who supports terrorism and extremism, has no right to participate in the Chief Ministers’ conference in Delhi to sort out ways and means to contain terrorist activities. It’s a shame on him to attend the meet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

If the Centre fails to take action against those who support banned outfits, she said the State would witness terrorist and extremist activities and added that it would affect the peace and sovereignty of the nation.

Tamil outfit leader Thirumavalavan had recently come out in open support of the LTTE saying that the Central government has not extended the ban on LTTE this year.

Chiding him for his ignorance, Jayalalithaa has pointed out that the ban which came into force in May 2006 would continue for two years-till May 2008 and that it is not renewed every year.

She wished to remind the Central government that LTTE had been banned after the assassination of Prime Minister Gandhi and wanted to know why the death sentences for his killers had not been carried out till date.

Jayalalithaa pointed out that the fact that the leader of the ruling party in the State which is in coalition with the ruling party at the Centre is able to come out with elegies on the death of LTTE men like Anton Balasingham and Tamilchelvan which shows the helplessness of the Central government.
