Kandy’ son and Sri Lanka’s pride
Cricket’s most exclusive gem
With a spinner’s craft so unique
Murali is a mighty conqueror.

Never before has a bowler
In games fewer than any other
Spinner, pacer or speedster,
Gathered such a massive bag.

Challenged, flayed and tested
Mocked, harangued and hooted
Even no-balled on occasions
His action censured foul.

Forsaking the game’s spirit
Some ranted and raved
Even an umpire went afar
To condemn him devious.

Thru it all he remained calm
Proved his action fair and just
Raised his sportive nature
To the highest star above.

Murali is our mighty hero
Of whom we are so proud;
Forever he will remain
Cricket’s most exclusive gem.
