(December, 18, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama is scheduled to visit the People’s Republic of China from 19th to 21st December 2007, to attend the ceremonial opening of the Sri Lanka Consulate in Shanghai, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs official.
President Rajapaksa during his State visit to the People’s Republic of China announced that a Consulate will be set up in Shanghai in order to enhance the economic ties between the two countries which have remained close friends. Thereby the opening of the Consulate has been scheduled for 20th December 2007.The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rohitha Bogollagama will be attending the opening ceremony which be also graced by the Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, Tang Dengjie and Chairman of the China Council for Promotion of international Trade Shanghai Sub Council, Cen Furong. This event will be attended by representatives of the Consular Corps, prominent business as well as travel, trade and the media personnel based in Shanghai. The Foregn Minister will also meet the Mayor of Shanghai and the Sri Lankan community in the province.
This is the third Consulate established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this year, Frankfurt in Germany, Ramallah in Palestine and Shanghai in China. " This has given a wider presence to Sri Lanka’s international connectivity,"the government hopes.
