Law makers are breaking the law in the UK.

Keith Vas MP’s position in the select committee becoming untenable

Three British parliamentarians have violated the British law on terrorism?

(December, 05, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) Questions are asked within many circles how three ruling party parliamentarians spoke at the Excel centre in London commemorating the dead cadres of the proscribed Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The LTTE had held its Hero’s Day celebrations through its front organisations for many years in the UK. Until 2006 not a single British parliamentarian had spoken at any of these events.

At the time when British authorities are taking a firm stand against the proscribed LTTE in the UK, attendance by three Labour Party parliamentarians has cause serious concern for the law enforcers.

According to the LTTE website tamilnet news datelined 28 November 2007 pictorial evidence of the three parliamentarians speaking at the Excel Centre has been published.

The prominent of three parliamentarians is Rt Hon Keith Vas MP and he in his address called for a negotiated solution and warned if the Sri Lankan government continued the war, separation would become inevitable. "I can totally understand the demand of some Tamils for an independent state. These calls will only get louder and louder unless there is just peace," he said. Keith Vas making such comment at a proscribed organization meeting without criticizing the terror campaign of the LTTE has raised concerns that he is approving its violent campaign.

The other two speakers were newly elected Virendra Sharma MP for Southall and Ealing and Joan Marie Ryan MP.

All three MP’s witnessed the proscribed LTTE’s important official Mrs Adele Balasingam lit the flame of sacrifice. She has evidently tied the suicide capsules for LTTE female cadres whilst she was actively working in Vanni in the LTTE controlled area in Sri Lanka and also had undertaken many LTTE functions there.

The Excel Centre also had arrangements to display memorial tombs for the dead LTTE cadres and dance programmes of the LTTE with their approved coloured dresses and flags were clear evidence it was an event of the LTTE.

The LTTE front British Tamil Forum which organised the event had violated the agreement they signed with the police not to relay the speech of LTTE Supremo Pirabkaran. His speech in military uniform was broadcast via giant screen in the presence of the three parliamentarians.

Rt Hon Keith Vas MP is a member of the parliamentary select committee on Home Affairs. Administration of the Terrorism Act comes under the Home Office. Political sources concerned about Keith Vas MP’s participation are saying his position in the parliamentary select committee has become untenable.
