“ JVP & Govt. Playing with People of Sri Lanka”

(December, 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Gayantha Karunatillake, UNP Parliamentarian addressing a Media briefing at the UNP Media Unit today (19Dec) emphasized that the United National Party has always stood by its policies and principles under every circumstance unlike the Govt. and the JVP , which have no capacity to do what they say and vice versa. . The JVP’s conducted and of the Govt. at the final reading of the budget clearly brought home to the people their hypocrisy and self centred political games.

It is a widely known fact that this is a Govt. which could not honour a single of its many promises made at elections under a much publicized Mahinda Chintana. The same Govt. is the cause of Sri Lanka being placed among the ‘failed states ‘countries. It is the same Govt. which has presented the most monstrous budget 2008 in SL’s history - described by the JVP itself as a harlot draped in a Kandyan saree.

Then, how could one explain the JVP’s sudden chameleon change at the final reading of the budget after voting against it in the second reading? He asked

As the Govt., so the JVP knew if the Govt. loses at the budget voting, both parties won’t have a ghost of a chance of winning at elections .Therefore, the beleaguered Govt. has to cling on to its power even harbouring traitorous and corrupt parties in its fold. The JVP , on the other hand which has lost all its popularity for betraying the trust of the people reposed in them at last elections had to strike any sordid deal to halt the Govt. defeat and the resultant elections.

In any event this Rajapkase family rule has no mandate, proper majority or people’s will to continue, he added.

The JVP may pride itself as having successfully cheated the masses this time too as they have done all along, and the Govt. may think that it has also emerged victorious by a clever manipulation crushing the will of the people .But. At the end of the day it is the masses who are the losers, he lamented.

The UNP however will never allow the Govt. or the JVP to continue defeating the will of the people. As a party of principles and policies with the welfare of the people and development of the country as the primary goals will not relax or relent until these goals are reached, no matter what trickery and mockery the Govt. and JVP may engage in.

Because of this JVP treachery, there has arisen a split within its own ranks with the more honest and scrupulous clashing against the perfidious group who took the decision to save the Govt. at the budget reading, he concluded.
