Govt. wasting colossal sums on foreign consultants purposelessly - OPA

(December, 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) In the face of raging accusations of corruption and wastages of public funds, comes another allegation from the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) claiming that interested parties should not be allowed to manipulate the process of consultancies.

Only if there are no locals to handle the task should the Govt. seek foreign consultants said OPA President Elmore Perera yesterday (4Nov).

A staggering sum of Rs.127 million paid by Bank of Ceylon to a consultant was held as blameworthy by the COPE .The latter also frowned on the granting of Rs.314 million and overdraft of Rs. 300 million without adequate security.

It is the people who have to bear the brunt of all these blunders as it is they who are ultimately made to pay for the sins by the Govt. taxation, price hikes and soaring cost of living.
