Another Govt. backed corrupt deal?

(December, 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) It is learnt that there are moves by interested parties with the backing of a Minister of the Govt. to develop a strategically placed prime land in Colombo opposite the Beira Lake under most dubious and questionable circumstances.

Normally, such a development must follow certain rules, regulations and Tender procedures. Besides, several proposals by capable foreign Companies have been submitted to the Board of investment.

Yet, it is alleged that Minister Thondaman and his coterie are promoting a mushroom Switzerland Co. called DECATRADING S.A. which has no proven record of its ability to undertake this project. The local partner of this Co. too is an allegedly a notorious smuggler and his name is in the COPE report charge sheet on another land scandal which is pending.

Does this mean it is yet another backyard development plan (not country’s) as all others of the Govt. and Ministers?
