Addressing the gathering at Pelwatte Sugar Factory playgrounds at the closing ceremony of the Wellassa Navodaya programme, the President invited the opposition to support to resolve the ethnic problem. He also urged the parties that ushered him to the Presidency to support further to develop the country.
The inaugural release of water in the ‘Weli Oya Amuna’ under the programme took place this morning under the auspices of the President. The programme is to irrigate over 4,000 acres of bare land.
The President said that the government has allocated Rs. 1,100 million for Welioya and Rs. 1,700 Weheragala in Monaragala district. Massive irrigation projects such as Moragahakanda have also commenced, he said.
Meanwhile ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will hold a rally tomorrow (07) at Badulla esplanade in the capital of the Uva Province. This is the fifth of a series of rallies SLFP has planned to explain the current political situation in the country to the public.The President will deliver the key note address of the rally while several other Ministers are also to address the public.(CP)
