Ranil with New Program

Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP and Leader of Opposition addressing a “JanaRala Rally’ the organised by the SLFP (M) and UNP at Monaragala town on last Friday , 28th September, explained that just like via the “Janadhuka Niwaaleeme Aragalaya” program which hopes to redeem the people’s sovereignty and to call for elections, there shall be a 15 year development plan based on a national program after elections for which all opposition parties shall be responsible.

The National Alliance UNP-SLFP (M), (the National Congress) is absolutely committed to fulfilling these goals. The party which disclaims this responsibility is not working towards fulfilling the aspirations of the masses, Ranil said.

If all Opposition parties fall in line with this National policy and plan, irrespective of which Party comes to power, this plan can be implemented. All developing countries advanced because they worked towards and followed such a program and plan. Rajapaksa administration cannot work towards such a program or plan because it thinks only of itself, according to opposition leader.

Referring to the unbearable rapidly soaring cost of living, the acute and frequent price hikes, and the unending taxation have imposed miseries and hardships on the masses so much so that hitherto unheard crimes are proliferating in the country – suicide attempts on account of poverty; selling and abandoning their loving children owing to destitution.

Just within the last few months, prices of essential commodities and food items consumed by the poor have been increased at regular intervals. Despite it, the price of flour was again increased by Rs. 13.00 and bread by Rs. 5.00 with effect from (28 Sep).
Because people’s money fritters away so fast owing to the high cost of goods, they have no money to go into a shop and buy their requirements. Consequently, Traders and shopkeepers too are having no business.

Education, the wealth of the future generation ahs also been muddled up with no proper National policies and guidelines. Each day, the education sector problems are being just dragged on providing solutions on ad hoc and not on a permanent basis. School admissions to Grade one is also completely messed up.
