(October, 04, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)The UNP Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella told a Media Briefing today (04 Sep) at the UNP Media Centre that though this illicit multi million rupee payment to the LTTE by the Rajapaksa Regime before and after elections to forcibly obstruct the Tamils in those areas from exercising their franchise came to the spotlight only lately, through the exposures made by Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathy Sooriyarachi , both of whom were former Cabinet Ministers of Rajapaksa Administration and who were largely instrumental for the victory of Rajapaksa at elections , there were many others who knew that there was indeed a secret sordid deal between the LTTE and the Rajapaksas .
Kiriella cited so many facts which substantiate the truth of these allegations:
Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, by trying to summon LTTE political spokesman Tamilselvan as witness before the impending Parliamentary Select Committee is unwittingly showing that there is a collusion between the Govt. and LTTE. Nobody will invite a witness to give evidence in his defence unless he is sure that that witness is with him.
Why did the Govt. show so much reluctance to appoint a Parliamentary select Committee, and delayed it for six months despite strong protests and agitation from the UNP .?
At the interview with the Tamil Newspapers Sudar Oli, LTTE Tamilselvan clearly said that Basil Rajapaksa and others met the LTTE in Wanni before last elections, and there was a transaction, though he did not elaborate.
But, Basil Rajapaksa when questioned on this in his first appearance in Parliament as M.P., denied having gone to Wanni, as well as any knowledge of the transaction between the LTTE and the Govt.
The Govt. censoring the news relating to questions and answers on this sordid deal and betrayal appearing in Udayan Newspapers.
The Govt. purposefully allowing the opportunity to interrogate LTTE arms procurer Kumaran Pathmanathan to slip away confirming the suspicion that the Govt. feared that if the interrogation is conducted its own involvements, and the secret deal will surface.
Answering a question raised by the Media, that Tamilchelvan alleged that even the UNP too tried to meet them; Kiriella said, that it is true, but the UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe disagreed with the LTTE conditions, and refused to compromise the integrity and country’s interests, unlike the Rajapaksa Administration.
The Rajapaksa Administration after entering into this sordid deal only to win the elections has not only put the country in jeopardy, but has also played into the hands of the LTTE. Who are holding the noose round the Govt.’s neck which might get tightened any moment, he asserted.
