(October, 22, New Delhi, Sri Lanka Guardian) Though finance ministry has sought to downplay the apprehensions of Khalid bin Mahfouz — a prominent Saudi businessman alleged to have links with Osama bin Laden — involvement in the stock market, the assessment of intelligence agencies has been backed up by independent investigations by the US which has, post-9/11, moved aggressively to choke the flow of funds to terrorists.
An international vigil is on against Saudi-based Islamic charities.
Based on inputs, Sebi and finance ministry had scanned records to check if terror funds were finding their way to Dalal Street but both said they did not find anything to suggest this was happening. The alert on Khalid, backed by R&AW inputs, has forced them to undertake the exercise anew.
