A horrendous social cancer has taken a death-hold on Sri Lanka

(October, 24, Los Angeles, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Government of Sri Lanka have a duty of care to hand over the bodies of the LTTE cadres to the International Red Cross so that the bodies will be handed over to their bereaving families for burial. Parading the naked bodies of the LTTE cadres in public is to be used as no requisite in boosting morale amongst the Sri Lankan Armed Forces. This kind of inhumane act is immoral and totally unacceptable and the Government of Sri Lanka should know better.
The Government of Sri Lanka also have a duty to be more transparent and open about the attack at the Anuradhapura Air Base. It is fact that 18 SLAF aircraft were destroyed by the combined Ground and Air Assault of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The reluctance of the Ministry of Defence to disclose the true facts in relation to the surprise attack by the LTTE is not acceptable. The Government of Sri Lanka is accountable to Parliament and the Sri Lankan people. If the SLAF have suffered huge losses in terms of damaged or destroyed aircraft that that ought to be disclosed to Parliament and to the public.
The Media or the press in Sri Lanka should in no way be pressurised by the Government of Sri Lanka into not disclosing the true nature of the Anuradhapura Air Base attack. This kind of intimidation is totally unacceptable in a Democratic and Socialist Republic. If the public are to have any faith in the Government of Sri Lanka then it is important not to hide away from the truth and to be open, transparent and accountable for all actions.
The Anuradhapura Air Base attack by the LTTE can only be blamed on the serious inefficiencies and lax attitude of the Ministry of Defence and the Military Intelligence. The Defence Secretary Mr Gotabhaya Rajapakse and the Director-General of Military Intelligence Major-General Kapila Hendavitharana should hand in their resignations if they have any shame or be thrown out of office by the President for they have been doing a pretty bad job defending the nation from the LTTE. This attack could have been avoided and the SLAF with the assistance of Military Intelligence, SL Army and the Ministry of Defence had been better prepared.
It is likely that the LTTE will launch another attack and the Government of Sri Lanka will still be unprepared.... I think it is "HIGH TIME" the Government of Sri Lanka swallowed its pride and sought assistance from India, because India as the expertise and resources in order to handle the LTTE. The Government of Sri Lanka should be more willing to accept more assistance from India.
