Naked streaker turns on cops

Al fresco: Passersby contacted police after seeing this nudist running around Newcastle-upon-Tyne’s Town Moor

(October, 29, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) It could be a scene from a Benny Hill show – although this story starred a naked man rather than a troupe of scantily-clad women.

One minute a nudist was being pursued by police, the next he had turned the tables and was chasing the shocked officers instead.

The naked man had been reported to police by several passers-by who saw him jogging around a field.

But, as police bore down on him, he suddenly turned and shouted at them. The officer closest to him took fright and sprinted in the opposite direction.

It took another 15 minutes before the streaker was finally brought under control and arrested.

The bizarre incident was captured on film by two landscape photographers at Newcastle-upon-Tyne's Town Moor.

One of the snappers, 51-yearold Carlos Pequenino, said: 'It was a nice day so we decided to go and get some photos of trees and plants and flowers.

'Then this naked man just turned up. It wasn't very warm and he was being strangely enthusiastic.

'It was so unusual we decided to take the photos.

'It was quite funny because the policeman was chasing the man, then he suddenly stopped and chased the policeman.'

The other photographer, 40-year-old Brian Clark, added: 'We only took the photographs to show our friends because no one would have believed us.'

Northumbria Police said a man had been arrested.
