(October, 09, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka Guardian) During a search operation conducted on information received, naval troops recovered a suicide jacket with C4 explosives at Irruppukulam in Nilaweli, Trincomalee on the 08th October 2007 around 7.30 p.m, naval source said.

“The suicide jacket weighed four kilograms and was fitted with two remote control devices. There were 20 improvised lethal C4 cubes weighing ten kilograms,” the source told the Sri Lanka Guardian.

The LTTE members had intended to cause massive damage using the recovered items. The timely intervention of the vigilant naval troops had foiled the terrorists’ intentions.

Meanwhile, anti personnel mines targeting tracking naval troops recovered in Poduwakattu

Sri Lanka Naval troops conducting a routine clearing operation recovered two anti personnel mines at Poduwakattu in Kokilai on the 08th October 2007 around 9.15 a.m.

It is believed that the mines were laid by the LTTE cadres to inflict damages to the naval troops who were tracking their withdrawal routes after the confrontation which took place on the 27th September off Pulmudai.

The surrounding area was searched by the Navy’s Bomb Disposal Team. However, no further mines were found.
