LTTE smuggling racket foiled in Pallemunai

(October 16, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lankan Naval troops deployed on routine foot patrol foiled an LTTE racket of smuggling banned items at Pallemunai in Mannar today , a top level militray source said.

“In a pre-dawn search operation conducted around 5.00 a.m. the troops apprehended a lathe machine, five packets of welding electrodes, each weighing 2.5 kilograms, and a city link CDMA telephone made ready to be smuggled in to the un-cleared areas,” he told the Sri Lanka Guardian.

The apprehended items were hidden at the Katupalliya Beach area in Pallemunai. The troops searched and cleared the area but no further apprehensions were made.
