LTTE smuggling of diesel and cement foiled in Pesalai

(October, 04, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka Guardian) In a pre-dawn search operation, Sri Lankan Naval troops recovered a large haul of diesel and cement ready to be smuggled in to un-cleared areas at Sirithoppu in Pesalai today (4th).

The recovery was made around 3.00 a.m. There were 1050 litres of diesel in five barrels each containing 210 litres and 50 bags of cement.

LTTE try to smuggle fuel and cement to build and fortify bunkers in un-cleared areas in their desperate attempts to withstand the advancing of government security forces who are engaged in searching and destroying terrorists in their hide-outs.

Naval troops conducting a clearing operation recovered a suicide jacket packed with explosives at Kondachchikuda in Silawathurai on the 02nd October 2007 around 4.00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the suicide jacket was found half buried in a tank bund and was packed with one kilogram of lethal C4 explosives. It was fitted with two layers of steel balls to cause maximum damage and connected to two electrical switches to be activated targeting the intended victim.
