(October, 15, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) ‘Lanka Post’ - a well thought and politically non-aligned weekly newspaper is expected to hit the stands in Colombo on October 23, 2007. The newspaper has already found its place with full of glamour on the website.

Sources close to the publication say ‘Lanka Post’ will remain independent. Its founder, a well known journalist Bandula Jayasekara who was the editor of Daily News until few months ago, is a man of conviction and not entrenched in petty partisan politics in any way. His ambition is to run a peoples newspaper by accommodating everyone with their diverse views. By starting a media forum at this juncture to reflect diversity, the newspaper will be playing an important role to engage people from the cross section of the population.

Bandula wants the new ‘Lanka Post’ to be impartial and wish to leave the ultimate decision making to the people. A man with full of energy, ideas and charisma, he had already proven himself to be a non partisan journalist and during his time with Daily News he played a laudatory role to shift the newspaper to reflect the voices of the people to some extent within the difficult environs in which it was run. With the government politics entrenched in the day to day running of the Daily News, there was no room for any honest and independent editors like Bandulla to play a charismatic role to encompass wider views which is urgently needed to bring the people of all walks of life together.

‘Lanka Post’ needs the support and blessings from all the communities of Sri Lanka. Let ‘Lanka Post’ play its important role to bring about unity in diversity with transparent journalism that is urgently needed in the bleeding Sri Lanka.
