UNP claims government lost Rs.6600 million in the Anuradhapura attack

(October,24,Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Even after the LTTE launched two Air attacks earlier ,the Govt. never took any precautions against another attack , lamented Lakshman Seneviratne referring to the LTTE combined Air and land attack on the Key AirForce Base in Anuradhapura on 22nd early morning.

The UNP Parliamentarian addressing the Media conference at the UNP Media Unit today (24 Oct) said the total loss sustained by the damage to Aircraft and equipments amounts to Rs. 6600 million, he exclaimed. He detailed as follows the colossal damage inflicted by the LTTE:

PT 6 Trainers -3 destroyed – each costing U.S. $ 350,000 –Total cost US$ 1,050,000
(LKR 119,700,000)

K8 Advanced Jet Trainer – 1 destroyed costing U.S. $ 3,500,000 (LKR 399,000,000)

Mi 24 Helicopter unships – 2 destroyed – each costing U.S. $ 5,000,000 –Total US$ 10,000,000 (LKR 1,140,000,000

Mi 17 Helicopter Troop Carriers - 1 destroyed costing U.S. $ 5,000,00 (LKR 570,000,000)

Bell 212 Helicopter – 1 destroyed costing US$ 5,500,000 (LKR 627,000,000)

Beechcraft -1 destroyed costing US$ 13,000,000 (LKR 1,482, 000,000) + Thermal imaging and surveillance equipment destroyed costing US$ 15,000,000 (LKR 1,710,000,000)

UAVs – 3 destroed – each costing US$ 1,000,000 + cost of each camera US$ 500,000- Total US$4,500,000 (LKR 513,000,00)

Cessna – 6 destroyed – each costing US$ 150,000- Total US$ 900,000 (LKR 102,600,000)

The Govt. by intimidating the Press is not allowing the true news to seep through to the people . Except for the pro Govt. Newspapers which gave out all false news at the behest of the Govt. rest of the Media feared to publish the News.

Answering a question posed by the Media as to whether these facts and figures of the UNP are authentic, Seneviratne, said, unlike the Govt. the UNP has no reason to falsify the facts .He explained that these facts were discussed and debated in Parliament, he concluded.
