Four LTTE pistol gang members arrested

(October,22,Trincomalee, Sri Lanka Guardian) During a search operation conducted on information received, naval troops arrested four LTTE pistol gang members and two claymore mines at Oluthuduwai in Thalaimannar on the 20th October 2007 around 4.15 p.m , Sri Lanka Navy source said.

The naval troops initially arrested two LTTE pistol gang members during the search operation. Questioning of the arrested cadres led to the rounding up of two more pistol gang members hiding in the same area. Further interrogation of the rounded up gang led to the recovery of two claymore mines and their stands hidden in a scrub jungle. The recovered claymore mines, each weighing five kilograms, were concealed in a plastic can.

It is learnt that the arrested LTTE pistol gang was involved in the attack on two police constables at the Oluthuduwai Junction on the 15th.

“The arrested LTTE cadres and the recovered items were handed over to the police ,” he told the Sri Lanka Guardian.

The Mannar Police are conducting further investigations.

Meanwhile , Six hundred and fifty (650) new entrants who joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Navy as recruits passed out in an elegant parade held at SLNS “Shiksa” at Poonewa in Medawachchiya in the North Central Province, in the morning on 20th October, amongst a larger gathering of parents, relatives, friends and well wishers.

Rear Admiral PLN Obeysinghe, Commander of the North Central Naval Command, who inspected the parade, received the salute.
