(October, 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) In the 2008 Budget appropriation Bills of Government, no allocations have been made to the Offices of the Former Presidents, D.B.Wijetunge and Chandrika Bandaranaike.However, in this year’s (2007) budget, Rs. 7.3 million recurrent expenditure and Rs. 100,000.00 in capital expenditure for Office of D.B.W. and Rs. 14.5 million in recurrent expenditure and Rs. 3.4 million in capital expenditure were allocated for Office of CBK.
These have been completely slashed in the 2008 budget. President’s Secretary, Lalith Weeratunge has written to both Ex – Presidents to wind up their Offices with immediate effect. ‘Without delay’ quit notices were also served on the Residences/ Offices of both Ex- Presidents. This urgent insistence has necessarily resulted in confusion owing to the limited time factor.
