(October 16, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Secretary General of the Eelam People Democratic Party Douglas Devananda was participated in political activities that could amass consensus towards the implementation of the party’s proposal for a three phased political resolution to the ethnic issue in Sri Lanka.
The initial part of the campaign has been a meeting with the representatives of the Diaspora in some of the western countries, held in London on last Saturday. Representatives from various institutions of London participated in this event held at the University of East London sponsored by the Tamils Peace Consortium.
The event was presided over by Sivalingam a political analyst and a senior left politician. A popular writer Rajeswari Balasubramaniam, a former leftist Gangatharan, Paul Sathyanathan, Councillor Bashir an Attorney, Dr. Bala and Paraman, a politician also participated.
The Secretary General in his address explained the current situation in Sri Lanka in relation to the ethnic issue and the feasibility of North Eastern population in achieving a short term and a long-term solution to the ethnic problem.
The EPDP presented a document explaining the three-phased resolution to the audience and their comments and suggestions were obtained. Those who commented said the three-phased resolution must be put into effect without delay and expressed hope that that would considerably reduce the burdens of the North Eastern population.
The participation of Alon Lov, a British Parliamentarian on Sri Lankan affairs, in that event was considered significant. S. Thavarajah, the representative of the EPDP at the All Party Representative Committee provided clarifications and analytical interpretations of the three- phased resolution of the Party.
