A breakaway cabal – the Church of the American Ceylon Mission – has its eyes set on American dollars and towards this goal will damn and debauch the entire community to disintegrate; even providing potential foreign pedophiles access to our vulnerable and orphaned children.The hunger these monsters create for themselves is insatiable.

Just about every sin that destroys the natural goodness of the human and the environment has the craving for the dollar at the root of it. At the beginning the dollar was just a means intended for order and human progress. But little by little greed for power and dominance based on shallow cultural fads, material splendours and perverse political goals that have come to determine American lifestyles erode whatever that is good in the human and steadily creates monsters out of him. In the process nature too has become a victim of voracious and gluttonous habits and ravenous profit-stimulated needs.

The Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India (JDCSI) faced this degenerate depravity of the dollar challenge in no small measure when a priest who failed to become its bishop broke away from it and formed the Church of the American Ceylon Mission (CACM). A force that began to take roots some years ago when dollar grafts intended for the good of the community began to seep into the hands of the greedy that was covetous of material grandeur, glory to the self and total dominance over others eventually took shape as a rebel church.
The leader of this church who has been exploiting the need situation of the community for over ten years and that of the suffering and the victimized, smartly canvassed their plight with show-room type projects among the gullible and the easy to be fooled and fleeced in the US, Europe and Israel and began to tap the dollar sources towards his own objectives.
While some of the sources of that dollar are honest and well-meant but unfortunately manipulated into the false belief that what they give go into the hands of honest and committed stewards, there are others, the pseudo-cults of non-governmental organizations and individuals who demand their own price and sphere of influence that are a pest and plague in Sri Lanka today. These are immaterial for any consideration for those who seek the dollar at any cost.
If the best interests of the vulnerable, especially that of orphans and the war-ravaged were considered as essential and primary, there would not be a cabal church, the CACM and there would be no concern about the accounts now overdue for more than ten years.
Possible exposure to pedophiles
Since, for what was canvassed involves a whole lot of human beings, many of them orphans and war-ravaged children, another aspect of human depravity and despicability is liable to find easy access to the vile designs of pedophiles against children. Sri Lanka is already among the top tourism destinations for child abusers, the pedophiliac child molesters. The needs of helpless widows also attract the evil and the iniquitous. When there is free access to certain types of depraved humans flushed with dollars as they are, the vermin variety focus on such places where they could give vent to their degraded desires.
In recent months the American dollars that have had disastrous consequences in many theatres of the world officially ordained from Washington and continues to cause grave anxieties, this currency has turned into a medium of evil in the hands of one man in Sri Lanka whose quest for power was focused entirely on his own interests; he was determined to achieve this at any cost even exposing helpless children to the possible designs of predatory pedophiles especially from Europe; Netherlands in particular.

The dollar being a much sought after currency, a free flow availability of it can only have disastrous effects. In the north and east, it is even buying people who set out on their life’s path with a commitment to serve the spiritual needs of their fellow beings. This certainly reflects on how badly a particular community has been affected by false leadership it might have opted for, at some time in the past and became a victim of an ethically, morally and spiritually corrupting cancer.
The JDCSI suffered some serious reverses in recent times having become a victim of this socio-spiritual malignancy. Bad leadership based on personal glory using the office of the bishop was the major cause of it and the church was far flung into an unmanageable region when it should have concentrated in the area where it has operated for nearly two centuries.
Today, stemming this damage and help in the recovery of this church has fallen on the shoulders of a very committed man, The Rt Rev Dr Daniel Thiagarajah, whose ascendancy to leadership was certainly belabored but definitely an act of providence. Every effort is being done to throw the wrench into the works by the cabal church that has a dollar lifeline on which it hopes to build an organization of power and clout in the place of JDCSI and its predecessors.
Unlike the Rev Jeyanesan, Bishop Thiagarajah holds a genuine doctorate and, apart from being a dedicated Christian worker, he is also a biblical scholar of great merit. He is a virtual outsider in the sense, he is not part of the clans and groups that have held this church to ransom in recent years and with his appointment their dominance has been blunted. Bishop Thiagarajah’s wealth is his faith; unassailable and inspirational.
He had to reckon with a split which was not justified at all. Although on the surface it may appear that the split came about over the election of a bishop, the real reason was the question of accounting the funds that poured into the JDCSI through this cabal church leader but hardly ever reached the intended destination, the Executive Committee of the Diocesan Council. The accounts were unaccounted for over ten years. Believed to be in the millions from the US, Europe and Israel, the rebel leader is evidently of the view that by forming the rebel church, he need not have to worry about the accounts and can tide over it easily.
His supporters are priests seeking worldly things, semi-literate Tamils from the east and the hill regions of Sri Lanka who are hardly familiar with Jaffna and a few disgruntled and thoroughly disoriented Middle Class urban Tamils who have been yanked out of their roots and now living in the southern surrounds of Colombo City for over three generations. Their culture is dollar consequential with their progenies comfortably settled in foreign climes. When some of them die, orders are sent to local funeral parlours for the necessary rituals to be conducted to overcome in-law dissensions about the “dear and near ones” traveling all the way to perform the same.
As the JDCSI celebrates its 60th anniversary this month, there is hope for it. This was seen this weekend when over two thousand people gathered together at the Cathedral Church at Vaddukoddai as a living testimony to this hope. There were also signs of how some of the cabal ones fled their posts lock, stock and barrel having become victims of the man who was able to buy them with dollars that have freely flowed into his coffers. He damns them with dollars and in the end such will damn them all.
Leading the rebel group to his own advantage, the Rev Jeyanesan with a doctorate conferred by a highly suspect NGO with only a primary school link, seem to believe he could simply appropriate all the properties that belong to the JDCSI just because he has taken the name of the founding father of the JDCSI, the American Ceylon Mission. The current chaotic situation in Sri Lanka is much to his advantage with delays caused in applying the legal process against this highway outrage; not that he will have his way as a result; it just delays it a bit.
He seems to thrive on the confidence that his US “godparents” in singles and in groups will never let him down and continue to heap him up with US dollars. That is exactly what Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos thought and so did the Shah of Persia and several others. And why not, even Saddam Hussein who in the end was hung in disgrace because his former benefactor, the US wanted it that way. Jeyanesan is neither a Marcos, nor a Shah and not even a Saddam but a priest who could not become a bishop and that too only through his own fault, rather his inability to have at least a priestly control over his wild romantic digressions.
This is the way of the dollar, a most corrupted and ill-gotten currency and the cabal church and its followers had better watch out for the price it will demand in the end; and that could be soon and certainly awful.
