(October, 22, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Report reaching us through confidential military circles confirm the pre-dawn raid by the LTTE in the North Central region of Anuradhapura which resulted in five helicopters being fully destroyed and one partially damaged. A training craft is also said to be damaged beyond repair.
The military source also confirmed 21 Tigers and 9 Sri Lankan troops were killed in the attack.
The attack comes at a time the Sri Lankan government and the right wing JVP were claiming that the government forces had weakened the LTTE militarily.
LTTE websites and media operating in the Tamil Diaspora were upbeat and claimed scores of other military craft were being attacked and destroyed including the MIG acquired recently.
They have given extensive publicity to the press release of the LTTE on the attack.
