By Victor Karunairajan
Sixty years ago today
When I was just a brat
But old enough to sense
That something was special
In my very neighbourhood.
That was the October day
Year one nine four seven
A special dream realized
And announced with joy
We are a united church
Bonded in deep faith
With redeemer Christ.
As years passed in time
Wherever I have been
I hear the stirring sounds
Of those Cathedral Bells
I heard that very morn
Ceaselessly reminding
Founded we are in faith
Bonded we will always be
Forever and forever.
In Christ’s hallowed name
Elated with rapturous joy
With gratitude in my heart
Pray blessings to all: Amen

(October, 14, Toronto, Sri Lanak Guardian) The Church of South of which the Jaffna Diocese is a part celebrates her 60th anniversary this month. This church is a global role model for Church Unity. We honour this occasion with a poem by Victor Karunairajan, who has served this diocese as a member of the Diocesan Council before he left the country. The Church of South India brought together several churches in South India but as expected such a union did not take place in Sri Lanka.
