16-year old boy and two women were injured when LTTE cadres fired a mortar towards Ethawetunuwewa village in the Welioya.
Meanwhile, the government stated on September 3 that some portions of the 2002 cease-fire agreement (CFA) were defunct in view of the blatant violations by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said in Colombo that the concept of areas demarcated as under the control of the outfit was not acceptable. He said the demarcation was in violation of the Constitution and no sovereign government could be expected to endorse it, adding, "The Government does not recognise any provisions in the CFA which were against the letter and spirit of the Constitution." He reiterated that the government will not launch a major offensive in the North in the wake of capture of Silavaturai.
