Air Force fighter jets pounded an LTTE underground ammunition dumps north west of Puthukuduiruppu yesterday morning (20 September), Air Force Group Captain Ajantha Silva said.
MiG27 and Kfir jets carried out an air strike targeting the LTTE ammunition dump located underground in Mullaitivu near the Paranthan road around 11.50 a.m.
He said the Air Force fighters carried out the air strike following ground intelligence reports and air base surveillance. “According to intelligence sources the target was destroyed and heavy damage was caused to the Tiger ammunition base,” he added
Meanwhile, unidentified gunman shot and killed the Grama Sevaka (Village Officer) in the Muthur area, Muthukumar Paranjothi, last night, September 20, according to military sources.
The incident took place in close vicinity to the GS's residence at Palathadichena in Thoppur at 7:45 p.m., the sources said.
Muthukumar was working as the GS of Periveli and Manachchena areas and temporally he was appointed as the GS of Kattaparichchan North, sources added.
