Over fifty families have fled the village of Periamurippu that comes under Madhu, said the Assistant Government Agent of Mannar district. The people were displaced because of the heavy shelling. These families have arrived at the village of Kunechchikulam. The welfare and relief measures are being looked into by the Sarvodayam organisation.
Meanwhile, the committee to inquire into abductions and disappearances, appointed by President is going to visit the detention camp at Bhoosa, where people arrested on suspicion are detained. There are about 200 such people kept in the camp.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister P. Radhakrishnan said that investigations into 12 suspects arrested from Wattala, Dematagoda, Negombo and Dickoya are nearing completion.
