07 LTTE cadres Killed

Seven LTTE cadres have been killed while latest confrontation in Kuduruvittankulam and Thampane, Vauniya sources in Military said.

Even, in the confrontation three Soldiers were also reported killed

Meanwhile, SL Navy headquarters yesterday (September 7) announced that, the Navy will establish two new camps at Mullikulama and Silavattura within a couple of days.

“The Navy will be able to get more effective domination over the South of Mannar Sea after setting up these camps,” spokesperson for the Navy, Commander DKP Dassanayaka said.

He also said the navy will provide security to the local fisher folk in the area who had been harassed by the LTTE for years. Further, navy will assist to facilitate the civil administration in the area which was liberated from the LTTE early this week, he added.

Earlier , Silavattura was the main platform of the LTTE terrorists for their arms smuggling and drug trafficking activities. The LTTE's presence in the area had also been an immense threat to Colombo city and the harbour as the terrorists had been able to transport their cadres and weapons to the South on sea routes via Silavattura. Further, the passes issued to the fishermen were misused by terrorists disguised as fishermen to launch attacks on the Navy.

Com. Dassanayaka also revealed that the establishment of Navy camps in Mullikulama and Silavattura would also help provide much needed security for the upcoming oil exploration in the Gulf of Mannar region.
