Thilanga fills Arjuna’s Vacuum

Thilanga Sumathipala is named to fill the now vacant post of Arjuna Ranatunga and that the co-ordinate tasks behind appointing Sumathipala were done by one of the close advisors of the President, political sources said.

Former cricket captain and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MP Arjuna Ranatunga had handed his resignation from his post as the party organizer in the Kotte electorate to the President last Friday (August 18th).

Ranatunga revealed that his decision was based on problems he had with Kotte Mayor in executing his duties in the area adding it was pointless remaining in the position of the party organizer, unable to do any justice to his post.

Though the reason behind Ranathunga’s resignation is related as the problems he had with Kotte Mayor, political analysts say that the undisclosed cause may be the government’s dire need for an extra capable individual to pose a matching challenge to the UNP powerhouse of the Kotte electorate- Ravi Karunanayaka.
