Reports reaching from eastern Sri Lanka confirm the JVP and JHU in collaboration with the government forces are underway to change the demography of the area.
These groups with the extreme fanatical intent are spearheading a campaign to replace the Hindu deities from passer-by small street temples with Buddha statues. This systematic campaign is taking place in Vaharai and Thoppigala.
The distraught residents are concerned these are done is a systematic way without any intervention from the government.
A resident of Vaharai said ‘we are being traumatised in every direction. We supported the government for their campaign against the LTTE and experiencing untold misery for giving this support and what we are now see is another extremism of the Sinhalese’. He further said ‘we do not mind erecting Buddhist statues anywhere, but what we disagree is to replace the Hindu deities with Buddha statues’.
Further information reaching from Vaharai confirms the government is repatriating the ancient Sinhala jungle inhabitants Veddhas to Vaharai with a propaganda mission that they are the origins of Vaharai. It is said JHU is involved in the repatriation effort to give a twist to the historical claim for eastern Sri Lanka by the Sinhalese.
