Representatives of UDC in Chettikulam meet Minister Devananda

A team of representatives form Chunnakam Urban Development Committee met Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare, who is also Chairman of Jaffna and Kilinochchi District Development Committee, on the last 19th for discussion on the development activities to be launched in Chunnakam. A petition signed by more than thousand people in this regard too was handed over to the Minister.

They had requested the Minister to take necessary steps for re-erection of the Chunnakam Post Office which is more than hundred years old and requested to allot additional land to the post office premises. They had also requested to handover the activities of the potable water distribution which is now under the Water Supply and Drainage Board back to the Pradeshiya Sabha. A request to issue a commemorative stamp in the name of late K.C. Nithyananda who was a prominent union leader had too been mentioned in the said petition.

Having accepted the written demands made by the Chunnakam Urban Development Committee, the Minister stated that he would direct his attention to the matters raised there-in for discussion with the relevant authorities. Regarding the Development of Chunnakam town he said that he would convey it to the attention of His Excellency the President.
