Remembered War Heroes

Sri Lanka Special Forces (SF) ‘War Heroes’ commemoration ceremony was held at a glittering ceremony at First Regiment- Special Forces (1 SF ) camp at Naula, Matale on Saturday.

Special Forces soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice and also those who went missing during their noble mission to safeguard the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of their motherland were remembered with hundreds of the next of kin of dead and missing soldiers on the occasion.
Giving prominence to the religious observances, the day’s programme started after the arrival of Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, Commander of the Army. Commander, Security Forces Headquarters –Jaffna ( SF HQ-J) Major General G.A.Chandrasiri who is also the Colonel of the SF Regiment received the Army Commander and accompanied him to the Guard Turn-Out conducted in honour of the Chief Guest by SF soldiers. After inspecting the Guard Turnout at the entrance to the 1 SF Headquarters, he paid homage to the fallen War Heroes placing a wreath at the foot of magnificent Special Forces Memorial erected in the 1 SF premises in memory of its War Heroes. SF Officers and Other Ranks, spouses of fallen Senior Officers and spouses of fallen Other Ranks followed suit.

As the memorial ceremony got under way, it turned out to be a moving scene filled with sorrow and memories of those who were close to the hearts and minds of the loving ones. Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka in his address commended those memorial arrangements organized in honor of the fallen War Heroes since it was also a token of admiration of their services to the Nation.

A blood donation campaign at the Regimental Headquarters premises coincided with the day’s ceremony. [SLA]
