The grand finale of the historic Esala Dalada Perahera, Kandy was held on tonight with the participation of hundreds of Kadyan Dancers and traditional officials of the shrine led by the Diywadana Nilame Nilanga Dela and the Basnayake Nilames of the four Devalas. The torchlight pageant one of the biggest religious and cultural festivals drew nearly a hundred thousand devotees, sightseers and tourists. This year the two tuskers, gifted by Myanmar, with 14 other tuskers belonging to the Sri Dalada Maligawa were among the large number of caparisoned elephants that took part in the Perahera.
